Archontiko Angelou

In 1895 Aikaterini Cambouropoulos built for her daughter, Marika a villa in Alinda on the island of Leros. The house was built using plans drawn by an Austrian architect and was set in a rose garden amidst vineyards. A few years later, Marika wed Stavros Angelou, with whom she had six children from 1901 to 1921. The present proprietor is the daughter of the youngest child, Lolos.

At Archontiko Angelou we try to provide the comforts one would expect to have in their own home or in a traditional hotel, but at the same time we try to be environmentally aware on an island with an eco-system that is strained by the additional resources required by visitors during the summer months.

In-room amenities are hairdryers, mini-fridges, in-room broadband internet access, ceiling fans in the upstairs rooms or floor-standing fans for the groundfloor. Upon request, we can also provide access to a computer, laundry and fax services. Finally, for the hotel guests arriving to Leros with cars or even inflatable boats, we provide parking on the hotel grounds.

All hotel rooms have private bathrooms with showers, – instead of baths – to minimize the waste of fresh water. During the day, for the greatest part of the summer, we use solar energy to heat water for guests’ showers and household use.

The peaceful surroundings and the house-like hospitality with our all-natural jams and marmalades, home-baked bread and pastries, fresh juices, local fruits and eggs and the carefree and relaxing atmosphere whisk our guests away from the pressures of everyday life.

SELF-SERVICE BAR

Self-service bar in the garden to make your own tea, coffee or juice at any time of the day or night

In-room amenities are hairdryers, mini-fridges, in-room broadband internet access, ceiling fans in the upstairs rooms or floor-standing fans for the groundfloor. Upon request, we can also provide a television, access to a computer, laundry and fax services. Finally, for the hotel guests arriving to Leros with cars or even inflatable boats, we provide parking on the hotel grounds.

The summer breeze with the beneficial impact of traditional materials have allowed us to forsake air-conditioners in most rooms. From this year howerver (2012), rooms 3 and 4 will have a/c. We still provide electric fans ceiling in rooms of first floor and floor standing in ground floor rooms.

Most of our guests prefer to have their breakfast served in the garden in the shade of the trees. Others prefer the sun of the balcony, the front porch or the dining room. And then, a small minority like to have it in bed. We are happy to accommodate them all. If you are planning a day trip to the uninhabited islets surrounding Leros, given advance notice, we will be happy to prepare for you a picnic basket, with snacks and sandwiches. If anytime during your stay you feel like staying in, given some notice, we can prepare a light meal for you. Guests are free to use the self-service bar in the garden to pour their own drinks at any time of the day or night, since it is open 24 hours a day.

ΕΣΠΑ 2014 – 2020

In the ancient times Leros and Kalymnos were called Kalyndia. The name Leros is presumed to come from the word “levros” which means smooth, because, unlike the mountainous and rocky Kalymnos, the Island of Leros has a smooth and fertile soil.

DID YOU KNOW...

The story of the famous novel "Guns of Navarone" is based on the Battle of Leros, and Leros island's coastal artillery guns — among the largest naval artillery guns used during World War II — that were built and used by the Italians until Italy capitulated in 1943 and subsequently used by the Germans until their defeat.
