The island of Leros is made of eleven (11) settlements with a total population of 8,207 inhabitants according to the 2001 census. T
he capital Agia Marina, with 2,672 residents, and Lakki with 1,990 are the biggest settlements of Leros.
A population increase of 1.8% has been noticed between1991 and 2001. This is remarkable since the previous decade had shown a constant decline in population. It would appear that progress has been made as this increase proves to be a significant interruption against the population decline.
